My Practice
My inspiration begins when I look to my garden, to the flora and fauna that reside there. The subjects I choose to paint reach me on an emotional level and challenge me on an artistic level. Traditional botanical art requires the delicate building up of many transparent layers to develop form and depth of color, making the 2-D drawing slowly emerge as a 3-D plant. I love the challenge that each painting brings when trying to capture the curl of a leaf, the twist of a stem, the hope wrapped up in a tiny spring bud. I hope the finished painting captures the viewer’s heart!
Rebecca Hall
Gardening has always been an important source of inspiration for Becky. Growing up in the vegetable and flower gardens of her childhood home she then turned those formative experiences into a career as a horticulturist. Years later she took her love of plants into the art room, first studying botanical art at Brookside Botanic Gardens led by renowned botanical artist Margaret Saul, then at the Denver School of Botanical Art and Illustration. Rebecca is a member of the American Society of Botanical Art, the Botanical Art Society of the National Capital Region, and the Rocky Mountain Society of Botanical Artists.
